How Story Empowers Kids to Shape Our World.
You and I can champion the creativity and strengths within each child. Even as adults, we can tell stories, and sometimes those stories provide healing as well as a creative outlet.
So this is my challenge, if you are a teacher, speak story. If you are a parent, read stories. If you’re a writer, publish stories, an actor, perform story. Sponsor and plant libraries and theaters in developing communities. We each have a role to play.
Use pens, hope, and words to ignite and nurture the potential of our children, and ourselves. Reach a kid through story, and you will change the world.
Persuasive writing and story opened doors for me as a child. I didn’t have enough support around me to help me walk through that door, so my early careers went in a different direction.
However, over time I circled back around and now I coach people on how to share their stories. I help adults, and children, stoke their creativity.
Listen to the talk. If it inspires you, let me be the mentor and help you turn your creative dreams into reality.
You Are More Than Your Traumatic Experiences
We all have, or will have, experiences with traumatic events. Imagine if we could channel our pain into resilience, creating safe spaces for healing our experiences with traumatic events. Transformed by the murder of her mother-in-law, Marcy Pusey, Certified Trauma & Resilience Practitioner, reveals how healing starts with the bravery of self-love, confronting the messages we tell ourselves, and believing we are more than our trauma.

The Grasp that Counts
There is so little that is mine anymore. Before having children, I owned all sorts of little things—knick-knacks, collections of all kinds, mementos that time-traveled me back to special moments. Then they came.
Thrashing, flailing, playing. Being kids. Knocking down ceramic butterflies, plastic castles, and glass picture frames.
While We Slept: Finding Hope and Healing After Homicide—A Memoir
In 2005, my husband and I woke up to the murder of his mother, Mary Ann Larsen-Pusey, by his father, Clinton Pusey, while we slept down the hall. Yet, This made us realize that perhaps our grief journey was different. Perhaps, even amidst great suffering, there was hope.
The Anchor of our Souls
At the end of each year, as the days darken early and everything seems to slow down to reflect, celebrate, honor, and gear up for a new year, I find myself nearly begging God for a word to carry as my banner as I march forward. Some years I fight the word, some years...
Start a Library Project
Help children in developing countries gain access to story by supporting the Start a Library project in Kenya.
Thousands of Kenyan public school children have low proficiency in literacy. A significant factor is the lack of access to storybooks and other reading materials. When children don’t have storybooks, they miss out on a creative, easy to understand text-rich environment, which is necessary for nurturing the skills to read and write.
The vision of Start a Library is to put a book in every child’s hand and nurture a generation of life-long readers. The program establishes model libraries in schools with a minimum of 1,500 storybooks in English and Kiswahili.
The program also trains teachers to run vibrant reading programs.
As an advocate for storytelling and the value books have for children, I support this program. I hope you’ll join me. For further information visit their website: startalibrary.org
